From the bong video to the text messages suggesting he received improper benefits, Laremy Tunsil did a lot of things that came back to bite him Thursday night.

Tunsil, an elite offensive line prospect, was still taken 13th overall by the Miami Dolphins, but he made plenty of headlines during his post-draft press conference. He took accountability for the video, saying he’s made some mistakes in the past. Okay, fair enough. When asked about the text messages, though, Tunsil denied accepting money from the Ole Miss coaching staff but later admitted that he did.

On the one hand, you can respect Tunsil’s eventual honesty. On the other hand, you can’t respect that he snitched.

“If I’m a general manager, the thing that scares me the most is the diming out of the coach,” former NFL player and Draft Nasty founder Corey Chavous said on CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones. “You understand that stuff happens, (but) it’d be tough to bring that into the locker room. Kids make mistakes. I understand. I was in college once. But the part where you’re talking about what happened with the coach – and again, that wasn’t his fault that it got plastered all over Instagam, but you know that it did happen now. You got the verification. So for me, I think that’s the part that’s the most concerning. They’ve already had issues in the locker room in Miami. For me, that would be the thing that would be the most concerning is the interaction with the coach. You have to feel sorry for the Ole Miss program.”

Looking ahead to Day 2, Chavous thinks Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry would be a great fit in Carolina. In fact, he thinks Henry would have been worth the 30th overall pick Thursday, but the Panthers drafted Louisiana Tech defensive tackle Vernon Butler, who is 6-4, 323 pounds and possesses a 7-foot wingspan.

“You’ve got to give Dave Gettleman some credit,” Chavous said of Carolina’s general manager. “He’s not going to stray from his philosophy. He goes out and gets Vernon Butler. I thought it was a good pick, but you’re talking about the big getting bigger because their defensive line now is going to be tremendous. I thought that would have been a potential fit for Derrick Henry. When you talk about size, I think he would fit there.”

Carolina has the 31st pick in the second round.

As for quarterbacks, Chavous believes that Connor Cook is the best available quarterback, while Cody Kessler and Cardale Jones could provide great second- or third-day value.”
