Adam Zucker dropped by CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones on Friday to discuss food, movies, media trips and, eventually, a little college football.
Zucker, host of College Football Today on CBS, attended SEC Media Days in Birmingham. He spent his days interviewing some of the best coaches in college football, and he spent his nights dining at Alabama’s finest restaurants, sampling everything from white chicken to Mexican cuisine with some of the best guacamole you’ll find north of the border.
All in all, a pretty enjoyable week.
“You got to go to SEC Media Days,” Zucker said. “Even if they say you don’t have to go, you show up, you walk Radio Row, you’ll get mobbed, robes will be given to you, rose petals will be thrown at your feet, everybody that you know and love from the radio world is there – it’s almost like the end of Big Fish when the guy’s getting carried to the lake.”
Ah, White Guy Movie Reference. Gotta love that.
As for actual college football, Alabama and LSU may once again be the cream of the SEC crop, but Texas A&M may surprise a few people this year. The Aggies started 5-0 last season but went 3-5 over their final eight games, losing to Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn, LSU and Louisville by an average of 14.4 points per game.
This year, however, could be different, especially with Trevor Knight transferring from Oklahoma.
“I think they’re very interesting,” Zucker said. “They’ve got so much talent at receiver, defensive line is stacked and Kevin Sumlin loves the defensive backfield. But I just think Trevor Knight is going to be a really compelling story. The fact that he’s a guy who’s beaten Alabama before, came in and immediately was named the starter and galvanized the locker room, I just think he’s going to be a really interesting story.”
