If you watch “My 600-lb Life” on TLC, then you’re familiar with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, one of leading weight-loss surgeons in America. On the show, Dr. Nowzaradan tries to bring morbidly obese people back from the brink so that they can lead healthy, happy lives.
He is based in Houston – the site of Super Bowl LI – and has had quite a few people stop by his office.
“My office is about three miles from (NRG Stadium), and a lot of people know I am here,” Nowzaradan said on CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones. “They watch ‘My 600-lb Life.’ They come into the office to take my picture and some of them bought my book on Amazon called ‘Last Chance to Live,’ and they bring it over here for me to sign it.”
In recent weeks, Dr. Nowzaradan has had visitors from Australia, Nigeria, Italy, Bolivia and Brazil, among other countries.
“They all watch the show,” he said. “People I see from the United States, some of them are overweight.”
Dr. Nowzaradan places patients on strict no-carb diets, often requiring that they lose 40 to 50 pounds in a month to be approved for weight-loss surgery. Sometimes, patients lose the required amount of weight. Other times, they actually gain weight.
“We’re trying to put the word out there,” he said. “The diet and my book is helping a lot of people. We want everybody to be health-conscious and proactive with exercise and healthy eating habits.”
