Tony Romo is still a member of the Dallas Cowboys, but let’s assume that Jerry Jones releases the soon-to-be 37-year-old quarterback sooner rather than later. What do you do if you’re Romo? Do you go to Denver? Do you go to Houston? Or do you go into a booth and become an NFL analyst?

All of those options are appealing for one reason or another.

“I think there would be a lot of intrigue to go to Denver with John Elway, a guy that has done it, brought Peyton Manning in to do it, they did it – there would be a lot of intrigue there,” NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger said on CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones. “But maybe getting on Route 45 and heading (to the Texans is the better option).”

The Texans have finished 9-7 in each of the last three seasons, during which they’ve started Brock Osweiler, Tom Savage, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, T.J. Yates, Brandon Weeden, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Case Keenum.

Yes, Houston reached the playoffs – twice, in fact – with those starters under center.

“Right now, Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden are the quarterbacks,” Baldinger said, “and they’re just dying for a leader to step into that huddle and flip the ball to DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller and Jaelen Strong.”

Hopkins, one of the best receivers in football, was limited to 78 catches (on 150 targets), 954 yards and four touchdowns last season. This is the same player who, in 2015, had 111 catches for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns.

That’s what happens when you put all of your eggs in the Osweiler basket. Osweiler threw 15 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 15 games last season.

Romo, if healthy, has to be better than that, right?

“And seeing that defense on the other side with J.J. and Jadeveon, I’d be really intrigued by going down to Houston,” Baldinger said. “(I’d want to) see if I could maybe out-do the Cowboys in that great state of Texas and see if they could get deep in the playoffs.”
