Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook and Leonard Fournette are considered by many to be the top three running back prospects in this year’s NFL Draft. The order can be debated, but for many, that trio reigns supreme.

Corey Chavous, however, disagrees. In fact, Joe Mixon is his No. 1.

“I think he’s the top back in the draft,” the CBS Sports Network and draft expert said on CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones. “He’s actually like a Matt Forte in terms of him coming out of Tulane. People forget when he came out of Tulane, he was a 4.4 guy. He could catch the football – outstanding in that aspect – receiver-like skills, a little bit taller, built pretty similar. They had some similarities except Mixon is maybe even slightly more explosive than Forte was at this stage.”

Mixon, of course, was suspended for the 2014 season after assaulting a female. Video of the incident surfaced in December 2016, with Mixon punching Amelia Molitor and breaking four bones in her face.

Chavous gives Mixon a second-round grade, adding that many of the elite players in this year’s draft are on the defensive side of the football. From Myles Garrett to Solomon Thomas, from Jonathan Allen to Reuben Foster, from Marshon Lattimore to Malik Hooker, there is a lot of elite defensive talent to be had.

“I think it’s a very defensive-heavy draft, and I think it starts at the top,” Chavous said. “I think the top five players, depending on who you’re talking to, (could be defensive players).”
